Machinist Apprentice

Job Description:

What is an apprenticeship? Apprenticeships provide paid on the job and classroom learning opportunities and career development. Through combined on-the-job training plus education, you’ll gain both practical experience and education to become a qualified Machinist. As a Machinist Apprentice you learn to service, operate and set-up a variety of machine tools to produce and inspect precision machined parts. This includes manual tool room equipment and advanced automated CNC production equipment, which enables you to deliver high quality components for our demanding customer base.  You may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Work and go to school to learn the art of CNC machining.  Our machinist apprenticeship program is a great opportunity for someone who has a strong interest in establishing a career in machining.  We are a precision manufacturing facility specializing in CNC multitasking production (Turn/mill machines). Our exceptionally clean, environmentally controlled, 9,000+ sq. ft. of manufacturing space features 8 axis robotically loaded CNC machines, operating to ISO 9001:2015 specifications.

Responsibilities

• Be a responsible and reliable team member who is quality focused with a passion for excellence.

• Learn to stage, operate and service CNC production equipment.

• Learn to set-up and operate tool room equipment. (cut off saw, manual lathe/mill/surface grinder and bench finishing tools)

• Inspect custom engineered parts with precision inspection gauges and fixtures per ISO layout sheets and procedures.

• Provide assistance, as needed, to the general workflow/operations of the company.

• Other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED.

• Minimum of 18 years of age in year of employment.

• Ability to lift 25 pounds repetitively and be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position.

• Successfully complete a skills/aptitude test, background check and physical.

• Enrollment into NMC’s Manufacturing Apprenticeship Program – Level 2 certification track.

• Valid driver’s license.

• Willingness to learn and take initiative.

Benefits

• Full or Part-time work schedule, flexible hours during school semester.

• Starting wage of $15-$20/hr depending on previous experience and enrollment pathway as determined by management.
